Sugar Skull Bakers 2016

Here is my contribution to 2016 SUGAR SKULL Bakers Huge thanks to The tireless work of the admin team #SSB

I was inspired to dedicate my creation this year to my beautiful grandmother, of whom I was named after. I adored her as a child growing up and spent many hours in her room listening to her wonderful stories of her life and especially the adventures of her brothers and my mother. She had a battered worn black tin trunk in her room, filled with memorabilia, all carefully wrapped up in tissue and ribbon and when telling her stories, shed unwrap whatever memory trinket she had that went with the story. She lived through two world wars and was a superb speed touch typist and at one point worked for the BBC. I treasure the memories of her, along with a few of her trinkets and pearl earrings and engagement ring she gave me. She often called me her favourite and when the aroma of her legendary fruit cake and jam tarts filtered around the house, I was sure to be standing by for the first piece!! The small photo inset is a hand painting I did of her aged 24.

This is one of the most beautiful cakes I’ve ever seen. I love the painting of your grandmother, grandmothers are so special, it’s wonderful how you’ve honored her memory in such a sweet way.
