The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince
The Frog Prince The Frog Prince The Frog Prince

The Frog Prince is a cake sculpture made from chocolate and sugar paste that recently won me the Bronze at the London Cake & Bake show. The theme for the competition was Myths, Legends & Fairy tales so I decided to have a go at bringing this Prince Charming to life, taken from the Brothers Grimm story of the princess and the Frog.

He was a lot of fun to make – after texturizing his skin I decided to paint him using cocoa butter and dusts rather than by airbrush paints. I wanted to give his skin a waxy feel. A few dabs of confectioners glaze on his feet gave him a little glisten. His coat was embossed with a lace mat and brushed with gold dust and his shirt is made from cake lace.

He is standing on sugar lily pads with isomalt droplets, and the gold ball in the bulrushes refers to the ball that the princess in the story drops in the pond before she meets her prince!

Hope you like him. I wasn’t sure if a frog was a good subject for a cake but he’s kind of grown on me!
