Mermaid theme drippy, sweetie cake

Mermaid theme drippy, sweetie cake

This isn’t my usual style of cake, buttercream doesn’t agree with me and I much prefer making decorations rather than plonking a load of sweets on top, not that there’s anything wrong with those cakes, some of them are really beautiful, I just prefer making things, so when my SIL asked for a “drippy, sweetie type cake in mermaid colours” I wasn’t as excited as I usually am, I’d planned on making use of Way Beyond Cakes by Mayens hanging handbag tutorial so a drippy cake was a bit of a disappointment. So I decided that while I’d give my SIL what she wanted, I’d run a bit with the mermaid colours theme and add on a few fondant details, shells, strings of pearls, giant fondant pearls, coral and the epitome of mermaid decorations (in my opinion) a dinglehopper (fork).
All in all it was pretty successful, everyone loved it, especially my SIL and that’s really all that matters.
Oh and it was candy floss flavour buttercream, so that helped I think, who doesn’t like candy floss?

Oh and before I forget, this photo was after my four year old little monster stuck his finger in the side of the cake, just incase you wondered why there is a little finger sized hole in the side.
