Traditional Money Bag Cake

Traditional Money Bag Cake

The handsome birthday boy sitting on top of his fortune!
It is a tradition for the Chinese to celebrate milestone birthdays for the elderly (usually the 60th, 70th, 80th and so on). Everything on the cake has to be auspicious, including the number of decorations added. This is a traditional money bag with gold bars and ingots (two each, to signify double happiness), three Mandarin oranges (three sounds like birth, and Mandarin oranges sounds like gold in Cantonese). 9 gold coins on top (9 symbolises eternity), and 8 at the bottom (8 sounds like prosperity in Cantonese).
