I wanted to show how beautiful and colourful Australia is with its flora, fauna and landmark. The cake consists of 3 sub themes : the sea, land and air. For the sea, I decorated with sea weeds and coral using quilling technique, painted the jellyfish directly on the cake, and painted a school of small fish, mandarin fish, turtle and whale. For the land, I chose Sydney landmark, with its beautiful Opera House (made using Bas Relief technique), Harbour Bridge and I decorated with Australian flora – flame pea, purple pea, tea tree flowers, blue gum flower, gum nuts and wattle. Finally with air, I painted the Lyrebird – the bird on every Australian 10 cents coins with its striking huge tail and the Gouldian Finch which is the Australia’s most spectacularly coloured finch, and is perhaps the most spectacularly coloured of all Australian birds. The cake was then framed with rich vibrant coloured circles repeated all around the bottom and top tiers.
