Aussies Take the Cake Collaboration - Post War Immigration

This piece is my interpretation of Post-war immigration to Australia.

The flags on the piece showcase the 18 countries which made up the bulk of the immigration at the time.

The map of Australia, surrounded by all the blue, shows how isolated from the rest of the world Australia is…the slight marbling and creases in the ‘water’ are to represent the waves and currents.

Around the cake is the word ‘Welcome’ in the native languages of the immigrants, and the colours of the ‘Welcome’ signs were purposely kept to blue, red and white, to represent the colours on the Australian flag.
