Norma Cake

Opera inspiration for cake decorating

Vincenzo’s Bellini “Norma” is a tragedia lirica in two acts, based on a libretto by Felice Romani after Alexandre Soumet’s verse tragedy “Norma ou l’ infanticide” which received its premiere on 26 December 1831 at Teatro alla Scala, Milan.
Norma, a Druid high priestess, had a secret affair resulting in two children with the Roman proconsul Pollione. He has now fallen in love with the younger priestess Adalgisa, and intends to marry her in Rome. After Gaul soldiers arrest Pollione, Norma confesses her in sin publicly. Her magnanimity rekindles the proconsul’s love for her. Both are led to the pyre.

This 3 tier cake inspired from Bellini’s “Norma” combines various decorative elements with reference to neoclassical textures and borders in golden shade and a fantasy magnolia in velvet red made out from gumpaste, as well.
