Country Winter Charm

I had seen a picture of a winter wedding cake like this and decided to give it a go. I opted to change a few thing obviously to make it my own, and wanted to make as many of the decorations as I could edible: all but the glitter gelatin bubbles and blue glitter spray are edible. And to save a bit of money I made my own rock candy! Loved the color it turned out to be. Almost all of the snowflakes I made (candy melts) got broken by my dad – God love him – so meticulous construction had to take place so that they looked whole. And I thought that some of the pieces looked good on their own so I just put them on by themselves. It took me a while to figure out how to do the pine cones, but I just stuck with it and I am supper proud of how they turned out! My mom thought I’d gotten a pine cone off our tree outside to look at. I learned that having soft fondant and hot melted candies isn’t the best thing, but thankfully I learned prior to dipping the actual pine cones. Always a good thing to test with scraps! I did not initially intend for the sugar pearls and frosting to match in color … but I somehow or another made the frosting the EXACT same color. My frosting wasn’t quite cooperating with me that day, so my smoothing job wasn’t what I normally can do, but I still love how the whole thing turned out.

At the corner of fresh and perfection
