A personalized airline birthday cake was a huge hit. The plane looked like it is ready to taxi down the runway with the taxi lights flashing. The young man likes air planes and the University of Michigan. So, I incorporated both in his cake. The decals on the wings is the University of Michigan crest and the fin is their symbols . I used small LED flashing lights under the wings. The cake is a classic vanilla/almond cake filled with a vanilla/almond buttercream. I used a jellyroll pan to form the main shape of the plane. I covered the cake with a homemade marshmallow fondant. The decals are made with edible image on frosting sheets. The engines under the wings are made from Hostess hoho’s and covered in fondant.
