Sigh—-once again, my cake making skills far outweigh my photography & lighting skills. This cake is so gorgeous in person! It absolutely glitters and shimmers! The photos sadly don’t do it any justice.

My client wanted a ‘statement’ centerpiece cake for her baby’s first birthday party & sent a stunning inspiration picture that was much more ‘elegant & wedding’ than ‘baby’. I loved it & set out to design a sophisticated cake still using the Twinkle Twinkle Little Star theme. The idea of dangling glittery stars popped into my head & I also wanted a cascade of shooting stars, but with more dimension than most of the ones you see where stars are just stuck directly on the cake.

All of the stars are made of modeling chocolate, both so they would have the body to give the cascade dimension & also create the dangles, and because it takes the glitter so beautifully when you paint it.

The gold sequin tier is Almond Amaretto Cake with Almond Amaretto Filling. The second tier up from the bottom is Red Velvet Cake with White Chocolate Buttercream filling. All the other tiers are dummy cakes, decorated with fondant, glam ribbon, & modeling chocolate,
