Chandelier Cake

Chandelier Cake

This was a last-minute project for my first time ever exhibiting at a bridal show. I had bought stands & had it on my bucket list to do for a long time. I took apart beautiful matching crystal cake stands in 12", 10" & 8" sizes. I then drilled through them with a metal bit to open up a hole, & dropped them onto a threaded rod, held in place with nuts & washers, & then attaching the cakes to them.

Since this is a display cake, the cakes are styrofoam dummies, covered in fondant & decorated with Crystal Candy cake lace in my favorite pattern, but it still weighed a lot & wanted to tip the stand over. The first stand I bought wouldn’t hold it at all so it took a late night trip to Home Depot just before they closed to find one that would at least work, & I still had to weigh it down with a concrete block. It will take a LOT more than a plant stand to hold a real cake!

It was a HUGE hit at the show, with many brides saying they had never seen one.
