PRESENTING – A ZUHAIR MURAD Fashion Inspired Cake Collaboration

20 cake artists from around the world came together to create a special cake collaboration inspired by Zuhair Murad’s fashion. Every cake designer had to choose one inspirational dress from Zuhair Murad’s collections and translate it into cake art.

I was immediately attracted to this Zuhair Murad design because of its bold contrasting colours as well as the whole composition and feel of the piece. It had an ethereal and regal yet vibrant, youthful feel to it. I wanted to convey those elements in my cake so I went with a very tall design with a mix of square and round tiers to give the modern, youthful feel. The bottom tier is made using my signature stylized wafer paper roses, all coloured by hand. I decided to change things up a bit and use a slightly different stylized rose for the rest of the tiers, just to add another element of interest. I think the combination lent a very vibrant feel to the overall design. I also wanted to incorporate the flow of the skirt but was stumped on how to do that until I decided to just go simple and add some swirly elements using dark grey quilling. I don’t normally name my creations but felt “ETERNAL YOUTH” fit so nicely with the feel of the dress design.
