The moment I received an email from Bronagh, my Alice in Wonderland bride, I knew I was going to love everything about this cake. My inspiration was Bronagh and Colin’s wedding stationery; Dan from Paperbark Event Stationery creates the most amazing wedding stationery, from his beautiful bespoke watercolour designs, so I knew when I had that for inspiration I was going to be spoiled! Their venue was Orange Tree House and in their grounds there is a beautiful wrought iron gate leading to a small wooded area for photographs and Dan had incorporated the gate into his beautiful designs so I just had to go with the flow. I created a woodland feel with different silicone moulds and cutters and tried to recreate the gate as closely as I could then I used paint made with petal dusts to ‘watercolour’ the entire cake and edible pens to highlight the gate.

I was also delighted when Bronagh asked to place the cake on my cake swing which my husband designed and custom made for Orange Tree House, then Bronagh’s amazing florist, Heather, at Floral Designs NI finished the cake off beautifully with gorgeous flowers.

This cake was like a little baby to me and I just love how it turned out, I hope you have enjoyed reading a little of it’s story and lovethe cake too! Kathryn xxx
