My friend, owner of The Little Cake Shop in the Netherlands, invited me to take part in something very special and very secret. A secret collaboration in honor of Vincent van Gogh, who died 125 years ago on July 29th.
After a long time of hardly any cake decorating, this was exactly the challenge I needed. I’m proud to say it turned out to be a personal victory.
I was very nervous so I decided to play it safe and stick to what I know; ball shaped cakes. But different, more challenging, on a stick.
My inspiration was “Almond Blossom”, because that was the only painting that made me dream about beautiful blue colors and romantic blossoms. And honestly, it was the easiest, because I cannot paint. At all. A stick figure is all I can manage. I can’t even write my own name nicely.
I can do flowers however, so that’s what I did.
The more pictures I saw of real almond blossom, the more understood why Vincent Van Gogh chose these flowers to feature an entire painting.
And the fact that he made it for his little nephew is just fun to know.

This cake was part of an amazing collaboration, of which I was a proud member.

The other cakes are here :)
