I was challenged to make a Louis Vuitton inspired cake for a girls 18th birthday. Being very new to decorating (5 months), I was very nervous to say the least. 18 is a special time in a persons life and I wanted to make a cake that most girls dream about (owning a Louis Vuitton item, money and jewelry). I made this Louis Vuitton trunk with edible money and pearls pouring out of it. The lower part is a 4 layer chocolate cake filled with a Ghirardelli chocolate buttercream. The lid is a 2 layer chocolate cake filled with the same buttercream. I covered the cake in a homemade fondant. I stenciled the Louis Vuitton designs with a airbrush. The money was made from frosting sheets and placed on very thin fondant to give the flexibility and movement of real money. The pearls are made from fondant. The bow on top was made from fondant and tmc powder. I airbrushed the bow with gold metallic color to give it a shine. To finish it off I stamped happy birthday on the gift tag with brown icing color.
