Toucan Tropical Cake

Toucan Tropical Cake
Toucan Tropical Cake

This cake was for a luncheon & the hostess wanted me to match the tropical theme, so she sent me the table linens, etc as inspiration, picture included above. I just LOVED the jungle print tablecloths, so I used that as my inspiration & brought it to sugar life in 3D. The toucan is blue in the print, which is why I made a blue one instead of black!

The toucan is built around a styrofoam inner structure, but other than that, everything is all edible. The birds of paradise just about killed me! LOL! Even with the help of 2 fellow cake artists, it took DAYS to make them! Those are some time-consuming flowers! They turned out so beautiful though, & looked very much like the real ones on every table. The cake is covered in black fondant, & every tropical leaf is hand-dusted to create variegation & detail. The Monstera & Elephant Ears are fondant & the palms are wafer paper.

My client also wanted to match the tropical theme with the flavors as well, so the bottom tier is my Hawaiian Cream cake—-think Italian Cream cake goes to Hawaii. Coconut, pineapple, & macadamia nuts combine to make this luscious confection. The top tier is vegan, gluten free dark chocolate cake with vegan Bananas Foster filling, which is a new flavor invention that is rapidly becoming one of my favorites!.

Blown away!!! Absolutely stunning!!! Yes, bird of paradise are time consuming and I also found them tricky, but then looking at these, well worth the hassle.
I bet they loved this

Thank you all soooo much! This was a hugely time-consuming cake to be such a small & simple design.
