All my life, I thought I was devoid of any talent for painting. Considered myself hopeless. It wasn’t something I could just pick up and do naturally, so I thought I couldn’t do it at all. Therefore, I never took any art classes or anything in school. I was always too busy being a jock, playing all the sports & showing horses. I was great at sports, but thought I was terrible at art, although for some reason I was always able to do cakes, even as a small child. But when it came to drawing or painting, I just thought “I can’t”.

But in the past couple of years, I really started wanting to learn to hand-paint on cakes. I dabbled in it a bit from tutorials on YouTube, but those weren’t giving me what I was after. So I took ONE class, so far, from Kaysie Lackey. That one class alone proved to me that I COULD do it. I wasn’t devoid of talent! I was devoid of any training or instruction. Kaysie’s class gave me confidence & made me LOVE painting on cakes. Now I understood the process, and how important the brushes, dusts etc are to your success.

Before taking the class, no way I could have taken on this cake order. So what a fantastic investment in myself that is already paying off! This was a big stretch for me, & I’m super proud of my Texas Longhorn lying in the bluebonnets! I would never have thought I had this in me, even just a couple of months ago.
