This cake was made for the Squires Exhibition (Capital City Inspired Competition), unfortunately it was damaged in transit (as you can see from the neck and some of the other broken bits on his head) and I was unable to enter it. Had great fun making him though.

I’m so sorry for what happened! It’s a great cake!
It happened to me at Cake International 2013. My exhibit was damaged in transit (I’m from Portugal) and I couldn’t fix it the way I wanted on time so I decided not to enter. I was devastated! But I brought it back home hoping that I could fix it and enter with it one day. And I entered with it this year at Cake International Manchester. It got gold! :)

Thank you for sharing you inspirational story Bety. Although I didn’t go to the CI Manchester I do remember seeing so many photographs of your lovely entries. This was my first time of entering any competition and I have learned some really valuable lessons which I hope will help the next time around. The lovely thing was I met some really great people and everyone was so friendly and encouraging x

Thank you everyone for your lovely feedback. He is made from sponge cake so am thinking he might not make it to another competition. Not feeling to sad as have had a great first competition and it hasn’t put me off doing it all over again :)
