Guitar Graduation Cake

Guitar Graduation Cake

Jeffrey’s mom and I had been talking about making a ‘guitar’ cake for quite some time. We decided High school graduation would be a wonderful time to do it. Jeffrey’s mom snuck his guitar out of the house while he was sleeping and brought it to my shop. I traced the entire guitar onto freezer paper and took detail photos on my cell phone and e-mailed them to myself so I could see the details on my kindle fire. (love my kf)

The body of the guitar is made from a full sheet cake. It was filled and frozen. I had to scale down the template I had made on freezer paper by about 1/2 inch per side, but it worked fine. I cut around the template to get the guitar shape.

The neck of the guitar was made with foam core poster board, then wrapped in fondant.
I had the cake baked, the buttercream and fondant mixed and all in all, I turned this cake around in about 9 hours.

Jeffrey’s girlfriend, who is one of the most artistic kid I know, drew all over Jeffrey’s guitar with a marker. I asked her to come and do the same thing to the cake. She painted the design with vodka and food color gels.

This was a tremendous amount of fun!

Psalm 127:1 Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
