I made this today for my mother in law Betty, who hosted a party last night to celebrate her 84th birthday coming up this week and also the fact that she has sold her house and moved to sheltered accommodation. She now has a beautiful apartment in a brand new complex and has already gained many new friends, and a new lease of life.

The cake is a whopping 8" high, with the lower half a double chocolate and the top a zingy lemon, both covered in white chocolate buttercream and finished in ivory fondant. The stylised wafer paper peony and roses are set off with a little gold cake lace. Betty does love her bold and beautiful flowers.
