Here is another of my “5 cakes for 5 venues”, this time The Merchant Hotel in Belfast. This amazing building, was originally, the headquarters of The Ulster Bank and has the most exquisite architecture inside and out. The internal features of the main banking hall are what inspired me with this cake. It is now the Great Room Restaurant where you can enjoy the most beautiful afternoon tea as well as dinner etc. and if you so desire (and have lots of money!) you can hire the room to hold your wedding.

I used many different silicone moulds to emmulate the exquisite mouldings and carvings around the building and handcut the ‘M’ and surrounded it with different scrolls and more mouldings to look like the M in the hotel’s logo. I had a lovely time setting up the cake and a few matching cupcakes and cookies, and my husband loved photographing the cake in the most amazing surroundings! I wish i could post more pics to show you all the details in the room I had to inspire me but hopefully you get a hint of it from the photos.
