Bubbles for Kayden

This was such a fun cake to make! My challenge was a bubble theme in greens and blues. I used Jolly Rancher candies to create the candy bubbles and balls. The result was super fun and it’s great for a kids party since the whole cake (including the decor) taste and smell yummy!

I love it! The colors look so great together. Could you share how you made the bubbles using the Jolly Ranchers?

Sure Toni! Unwrap the Jolly Ranchers, one color at a time. Put them on a silpat mat, which is placed on a cookie sheet. Your oven should be at about 250 degrees. Put them in and let them melt down. Once they are melted into a pool, (10-15 minutes) take them out and place metal cutters into the melted candy. You may want to add Pam or a cooking spray to the edge of the cutters first. Let them sit until it gets hard. It takes a watchful eye. I work with it while it’s still hot and pliable. Once it hardens it’s set and you can’t do anything about your final product unless you melt it again. For the balls, I rolled the hot sugar with my bare hands. My hands are tough and I wouldn’t recommend doing this unless you are sure you can handle it. Since I’ve worked with it before and know my limits, I was all right but I’d use a lot of caution if it’s your first time working with something like this. I wouldn’t want anyone to get burned! Hope this helps! This is super fun to do for Valentine’s Day too. I made lots of cute hearts for cupcakes with this technique. Enjoy! :D

Love it – AMAZING! Thanks for sharing even tho I have no idea what a Jolly Rancher is and what the Australian equivalent would be :) x

You are so welcome and thank you! Raewyn: Ha! Jolly Ranchers are hard candies that come in fruity flavors. I bet you have something like that at home. If you don’t, I’m sure using isolmalt is a wonderful way to achieve the same look! Take care. ;D
