I made this 8” and 6” chocolate cake for my grandson’s baptism. I’ve been wanting to try Susan Triano’s tufted billow weave for quite some time. Very time consuming, but worth the effort. The cross and baby topper inspired by Sweet Designs by Larissa. I used the new Wilton mold (the brown one) to make the cross and buttons, and the First Impressions baby mold. Thanks to the Royal Baker for her tutorial on how to make the swag banner, and of course thanks to Peggy does Cake for her method of covering a cake board with decorative paper.

Thanks Linda! I didn’t realize how just how many buttons it would take, and had planned on doing the billow weave all the way up the cake, but ran out out buttons. I think it turned out nice anyway.

That happened to me too on that Mother’s Day cake. I had intended on going up one more row and ran out of the buttons! It turned out okay too, but I’ll know next time to make extra! I’ll bet everyone who saw this cake was pretty darn impressed! It just turned out beautiful!
