Playing around with gum paste. Was trying for a sunflower but didn’t quite achieve the look. Considering I didn’t use cutters and didn’t have a veiner (used wire) it could have been worse. Didn’t really enjoy making this one. Next …....

Goreti, I think if you would have had it against a background, like some leafs, you wouldn’t be quite so dissatisfied with it. Put some big sunflower leafs under it! I made one and it had too much fondant in it and the leafs broke even after they dried. I’ve got a cake stand made out of spatter ware that is just crying out for a big ole sunflower on it! lol So far I haven’t made it yet.

I don’t think it really looks like a sunflower. It looks more like a black eyed susan.

Not to me! It looks like a sunflower that a few petals have fallen off. Is it too late to add some petals between each set of petals? It just looks like it could be a little fuller, that’s all, but it definitely looks like a sunflower!
