Hand crafted all sugar Leica camera to accompany a Graduation Backpacker cake I made recently (details in the ‘Man Bag’ album). This cake did not feature a mortarboard or scroll or any of the usual traditional decorations. Needless to say, photography is his passion and this camera, hand modelled from sugar is in the likeness of his own.

I used a dresden tool and a scriber tool for the logos and markings (pic 3). The ‘brass’ badge (see below) is my take on the Sidney Sussex College crest (as seen on the Backpacker cake) and I made a little ’leather tab to highlight the date and achievement.

Everything is edible and nothing is exact (no moulds or templates) and everything is designed to look a bit worn and old.! I remounted this camera for him to keep as a souvenir of his graduation day.

Vintage is my favourite cake topic, so I was so thrilled to be asked to make his cake.
