51 Cakers from around the globe recently came together to honour a very special group of people… MOTHERS!
Mom’s wear many hats: chef, hairstylist, chauffeur, wife, nutritionist, maid, wardrobe, consultant, referee, gardener, nurse, entertainer, accountant, teacher, …..all this and without a pay cheque! We warned to celebrate our own Mums and Mothers across the world by creating beautiful floral cakes that are as diverse as each of our Mums. Each artist chose a flower and created a cake to showcase it, we hope you enjoy our collaboration because it was made with LOVE.
I chose FLAME LILIES as they are the national flower of Zimbabwe, my childhood home, where I grew up, was educated and went to Art College to study graphic design. This is a tribute to my now deceased beautiful mother who worked so hard and sometimes having to hold down two jobs to ensure we had a good education. I know how much she loved living there and how sad she was to leave. She spoke Zulu before she spoke English, and had the perfect “click” of the tongue right up until she passed away in 2001. The Zulu beading design on the side of the cake is typical of the things she loved and still have her beaded bracelet. I love you Mum and still look up to you as a positive influence in my life and feel so privileged you were my mother.
