A triple layer, 12″×8″ octagonal red velvet cake, sandwiched together with salted vanilla buttercream (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!), with the edges carved to look like a cut gemstone. I covered it in precisely cut sections of fondant in an attempt to get the sharp edges I needed to make this look as realistic as possible, then airbrushed it with edible metallic red paint, and a liberal sprinkling of edible red glitter, and finished with 5 coats of DinkyDoodle’s Shell & Shine edible lacquer spray. The the edible sculptures of the happy couple on their wedding day were crafted from their original 1974 photographs. Entirely edible and sooo SHINY! Absolutely loved the finish on this one and so glad I found the DinkyDoodle lacquer spray – I think I will be using it a lot in the future!
Thanks for looking :)

What an amazing gloss that you have achieved. A very stylish cake.

Your ruby is so geometric and precise! I have no idea how you do this. I am in awe! Faved!

:) Thank you Franny and Hazza :) I wont lie. It took a long time to cut out all the pieces of fondant to cover this cake. They needed to be so precise and all the edges needed to be bevelled perfectly so that they would sit against their neighbours properly. Tricky, but worth it I think!
