3rd Method Attempted for the Peony

3rd Method Attempted for the Peony
3rd Method Attempted for the Peony

This is the 3rd method I’ve attempted for the peony.

My first attempt (pic posted earlier and using Ciccio Cake’s tutorial), I was super proud of but it only looked good from the top. From the side, it looked TOTALLY wrong but that’s because I was impatient so skipped all the drying upside down steps which would have allowed it to form a better shape. Also, I used fondant and not gumpaste.

My second attempt was using a different tutorial by Starry Delights and using her cutter method (combination of heart and crinkled or scalloped circle cutters) and it looked great again but I still wanted the petals to look more “cupped”.

So my 3rd attempt is a combination of Ciccio Cake’s (for the number of inner petals and their arrangement) and Starry Delights’ (for the cutters used and the arrangement of the outer petals), as well as my own touch in how I shaped the edges of the outer petals. I’m happier with this one than with any of the others. What do you all think?

P.S. Here are the links to the two tutorials I used, both of which I would recommend highly!

You did a fab job on this peony. I find flowers hard to do, but I really haven’t given it a good try. Need to do that, but your’s is georgeous !! :)

Thanks so much Christine (thanks for pinning), Kath, Yili, Claire, Dina, Jan, June, Wallace (haha wink, wink) and Goreti for your ever supportive comments!

Jan, I too never really gave a good try before, but now seem to have gotten a bit obsessed with trying to do nice stylized flowers. I know I can’t get them realistic looking enough but I still love a good stylized flower like Petalsweets does, where it’s signature and you know it’s her work. So trying to actually develop my own style for those that I do. Next I think I’d like to try an open peony or maybe a dahlia!
