Yes, they are still around. Actually they originated from BabyLand General in Cleveland Ga which is the next town over from me. The dolls started out all handmade with soft cloth faces like the body. You walk through a building made to look like a real hospital and the “babies” are staged in real incubators. As you walk through, the rooms change. There is a nursery, school house, home, ect. In each room the “babies” are staged..really cute actually. There is also a big “cabbage patch” and a nurse comes out every so often and announces that a mother cabbage is in labor. Everyone gathers around as the nurse administers medication, snips and cuts and eventually delivers a new baby. Then the onlookers are asked to give the baby a name. The baby is then “cleaned”, weighed and dressed and put in the viewing room nursery where it is ready for adoption. If you decide to purchase…“adopt” a baby while you’re there you go into an adoption office and fill out all the paperwork, pay the fees, take an oath, and finally get your adoption papers. It is a really neat experience for kids..I would recommend it to anyone traveling in the North Georgia area. The creator, Xavier Roberts, sold rights to Coleco around 30 years ago and they changed the face to hard plastic and the name from Little People to Cabbage Patch Kids. BabyLand General still offers the original handmade Little People and also the less pricey Cabbage Patch Kids. They have big event rooms there for parties and even weddings.
