Rainbow Cake Tutorial

189 days ago by MyCakeFairyDotCom | 3 comments »

This tutorial shows how to make a two layer rainbow cake. I used Duff Electric Color gels and Wilton gels for the colors of the rainbow. Evenly separate you cake batter into 6 bowls and line up your icing colors. You will need purple, blue, green, yellow, orange, pink. I use mostly Duff brand electric colors and fill in with Wilton yellow and orange. My son always loves to help with this part. Squeeze a few drops in each bowl of batter and stir well. Here are the colo...

Leather texture

189 days ago by Lelka | 5 comments »

There was a time when I was doing purse cake almost every week, and sometimes more than one. Creating that worn look and texture of a real material led me to experimenting with plastic wrap. Here is the result! I’d say it adds an extra dimension and interest to the whole piece, because we all love our own special purses, even if it has some wrinkles to it! The extra plus of having plastic wrap is that you can pick the whole piece, fondant and wrap, lay it across the cake and smooth ...

Easy Monogram Template Tutorial

189 days ago by cupadeecakes | 10 comments »

Monograms have been a big trend with wedding cakes now for a couple of years. I do at least one or two monograms a month. I have several different methods I use, but this will be my new “easy monogram” method. And I must confess that I been obsessed with Pinterest lately, so I asked my hubby to help me make my tutorial “Pinterest Friendly”. I’m not sure that it is Pinterest Friendly (its longer than I expected), but it is a very easy method for making monogra...

How to frost a cake

190 days ago by Cakes by Khandra (sweettooth) | 2 comments »

This (to me) is the hardest part about making a cake, getting that great clean smooth finish. With this tutorial by Whisk Kid, they show you how to frost a cake the best way every, with a scraper. Getting a bowl scraper, metal one, or any kind of scraper is the best way (to me) on how to create that smooth finish. This step my step word and picture tutorial will help you create that great finish. http://www.whisk-kid.com/2011/02/how-to-frost-cake.html

190 days ago by cupadeecakes | 4 comments »

This is the most popular post on my blog, and the most viewed video on my YouTube channel, because it’s something we all have struggled with. In this video tutorial, I will show you my method for getting my cakes ice-rink smooth. And as an added bonus, I will provide my buttercream recipe below the video window. Upside Down Ganaching Method for a round cake

194 days ago by Cakeage | 6 comments »

Another method for ganaching round cakes based on the Upside Down Buttercream method. This method removes the need for a ganaching “lid” or board the same size as the baseboard – It can be extremely difficult to find two boards exactly the same size and shape, unless you cut them yourself – I’m too bone lazy to do that :) Cut cake into three even layers, flip the layer which was the top of the baked cake over and attach to a base board (the same size as the tin the cake was baked in) with g...
