The roof of the windmill – the bones of it are not pretty, but it worked.I wish now that I had taken more photos, it’s all a learning experience. Hopefully the pictures I do have will at least paint enough of a picture for you. I warned you that it wasn’t pretty. I used a 1” Styrofoam riser as the base, and then used some scrap pieces of Styrofoam to begin the shape (each piece of Styrofoam was attached using glue and left to set up). To get the cone shape, I...

I thought it couldn’t hurt to share how I achieved the stucco effect on my Don Quixote cake. It is a pretty simple technique, and to honest, I had fun doing it. Cover a double-barrel cake first in chocolate fondant, then in white fondant. Wrap each layer of fondant around the barrel because 1. trying to cover over by going over the top on a double-barrel is awful; and, 2. the roof covers the top so you don’t have to worry about it! :) The best part is that you don’...
Hi All I have been so busy (and tired) that I haven’t had time to post cakes or anything. We had to make the airplane cake last week and off course like it goes left it to do last…luckily I read somewhere on Pinterest a while back that you can smooth fondant with paper towels and or a ball of fondant too.. That tip came in very handy late night when I had to smooth the plain and obviously couldn’t use a typical smoother.. i must say I was actually amazed at how good it wor...

The fondant should be nice and elastic and smooth. Sprinkle some icing sugar on to the board to prevent the fondant from sticking. Cut the fondant into strips, these need to be slightly wider than the tappit letters. Place the desired letter on the fondant strip and press down firmly...
I was asked by a friend if I could bake him a batch of gluten free sugar cookies. I have baked several pastries in the past that were gluten free (mostly bread and pastries), but I realized I had never tried to bake a batch of gluten free sugar cookies. I realized their must be a plethora of children who are unable to have gluten in their diet and would love to be able to receive decorated sugar cookies. I felt compelled to be able to devise a well decorated… For recipe, poins...

I wanted to create cornucopia sugar cookies for edible place cards on our Thanksgiving table; only I found I did not own a cornucopia cookie cutter. I wasn’t going to let that stop me I went into my cookie cutter storage drawers and found two cookie cutters to design DIY cornucopia sugar cookie. I used a witches hat and circle cookie cutter. I couldn’t be sure if my idea would work, I needed a trial run. Besides it was time to… For more information »
