Well what a productive day :-) I’ve managed to get my 4 tier baked 2 vanilla Madeiras a 2 chocolate Madeiras and they all turned out fab. The best was yet to come. For the cake idea I have in mind I needed a light weight cake as a topper but the while surfing Facebook a fab site Shereen’s cakes & bakes put a post up about having used something called RKT for modelling some large penguins on a cake. Not having a clue what this was I started googling and found out it was butter ...
Now I’ve already told you I’ve become a shopaholic at thecakedecoratingcompany and this was another buy. A dinky doodle pink airbrush and colours :-)It arrived and it was like Xmas I just wanted to use it but then I read I needed cleaning liquid for it :-( I didn’t want to mess it up so I waited. The time came when I had chance to use it. I had decided to test my Wilton giant cupcake mould with my 6 year old. I covered the base of the cake in white icing and set to work spr...
I had started gathering all my cake essentials and came across a brilliant web site www.thecakedecoratingcompany.co.uk and OMG I must be a rated customer now :-) its like toysrus for cake lovers. The product I took to straight away was the sugarveil it just looked fab and how right I was. While I eagerly waited for it to arrive I research the Internet for how to do it, what goes wrong which was good as the first time I used it, it turned out perfect. I now make sugarveil everyday. The start u...
I just finished my goal for tonight on my baby shower birch tree cake…I know most birch tree cakes are for weddings but this client wanted a Camouflage cake and I didn’t want it too look cheesy or for a proper word “Redneck”, so I thought the birch tree would be perfect to keep it classy. In the morning I need to attach all the pine cones, leaves and pine needles. I must say im already in love with it. Everything was hand painted and love love how it came out for my fi...
Just finished my first car cake and it was a definite time consumer. I enjoyed making it though, the most challenging part of the cake had to be all the detail work. At first i was scared to carve this cake because ive never carved before and i thought of all the horrible things that could happen if i took to much cake off ! I wanted it to look like a model car so I had to keep that in mind. It took me 3 days to complete which is far too long but for my first one i wanted to go slow and see h...
Michael asked me to post a picture of the apron I recieved from the quarterly contest drawing. It is super cute and very heavy and durable. Love it. Thanks agian.
Lovely Purple Dahlia – Made in gumpaste How I made the purple Dahlia from this photo… What I do when I find a flower I want to make Don’t have the real flower then print the best photo or photos you can find. Look through your cutters to find one which would work best. You don’t always need to buy a cutter since many cutter sets have several components and with a little manipulation you can create the perfect petals shapes. ...
I just had a class on cookies and how to decorate them with fondant and/or royal icing. It was like a demo class where the teacher tells us step by step what we should do and how to do it and we watch. The teacher gave us a paper with some recipes and a step by step on how to decorate the cookies. I am amazed with all the beautiful things that can be created with some simple ingredients. I will be trying one of the cookie recipes this week and decorate them with fondant. I will upload pics an...
