Hi,
I’m a new cake maker and have just created my first real cake – an Alice in Wonderland 3 tier topsy turvy cake, covered in wonderful fondant characters, including Alice, White Rabbit, Queen of Hearts… (view here—> http://cakesdecor.com/cakes/32594)
I made a few mistakes along the way, including poking some toothpicks through characters heads, failing at making white toffee in the first instance etc. I’m hoping that by sharing my blog on how I made ...

My cakey friends, here’s another tutorial on how I made the fantasy/ruffle flower shown on the above photo. You can use 50/50 gum paste and fondant mixture or plain gum paste or plain fondant to make this. Happy caking :)

I have been asked several times for a tutorial on this, so I have made this video which is a collection of photos I took at the time and is by no means the best way to do one. It is merely a guide if you haven’t made one before and need ideas! I was very new to cake decorating and did not follow any guides or tutorials and was simply working from a photograph of a bike… so… there are many, many flaws. This was my first technical sugarpaste construction f...

This is a simple tutorial for embedding a design on that giant cupcake cake chocolate shells.
Materials needed:
Candy melts or chocolate melting wafers
Candy colors
paint brush
Mould of your choice – for this, I simply used a clean, recycled cookie container. :)
How to:1. Melt chocolate wafers in the microwave or using a double broiler.2. Separate a small amount you would need for your “painting” and tint them with oil-based colors.

Part 2 – The Moth Orchd Throat and ColumnThe Moth Orchid Continued
Making the Column
Take a small ball of paste and roll into a tear drop
Insert a 22g wire into to pointy end
Mold to wire making a point. Not too big so it is a good size for the petals
Hallow out with a small rolling pin or similar, keeping the top smooth and round
Leave to dry
Making the Throat
The throat is a bit trick and is best if you can look at a real flower or o...

The making of the Moth Orchid Part 1
It is hard to explain every detail in a mini turorial, but I believe this can get you started…
Surprise… I decided to post a basic mini tutorial on the Moth Orchid instead of only the finished flower. Being a very popular orchid request and very beautiful I think it is a good choice.
This is a basic mini tutorial since not all steps are shown or explained in detail.
Hope you enjoy it…

Lovely Purple Dahlia – Made in gumpaste
How I made the purple Dahlia from this photo…
What I do when I find a flower I want to make
Don’t have the real flower then print the best photo or photos you can find.
Look through your cutters to find one which would work best. You don’t always need to buy a cutter since many cutter sets have several components and with a little manipulation you can create the perfect petals shapes.
