Deb Miller's Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant

34 days ago by MillersCakes | 3 comments »

This is my recipe for Vanilla Marshmallow Fondant. It’s very smooth to work with, drapes beautifully, and tastes somewhat like candy corn. I’ve been asked for the recipe, so I figured I’d finally write it down and share it. It’s color is a perfect match to my homemade butter cream. It is not a bright white…more an ivory. It has more ingredients than many recipes, might take a little longer to make, but it is worth it. Enjoy! ….This recipe makes about 3 lb. 13 oz....

Frilled Easter Egg

66 days ago by Bobbie | 2 comments »

I was inspired to create a sugar cookie with frills from a Craftsy video and a beautiful fluted egg cookie cutter I purchased at Copper Gifts. The design is a collaboration between Sydney and myself, we wanted something different and frills seemed perfect. The fondant is a monochromatic pink-purple color as are the frilled wrapped roses. The sugar Cookie Recipe: 150 grams/ 1 cup confectioner’s sugar1 egg1 tsp flavoring, pick what you like, for these I chose cherry blossom (the ch...

Disaster strikes #3: I survived the Melbourne photo shoot ........ just

77 days ago by cakesbynadia | 2 comments »

I don’t think I have ever felt as nervous as I did when travelling to the first day of the Myer Emporium Shoot. Having been on countless shoots over the years in Sydney, I have become used to knowing the people I work with. If I didn’t know the photographer, then I knew the stylist, or the art director or at least had worked in the studio before, but this was so different. In a different city, in a privately owned home, with 2 photographers, a stylist, the stylists assistant, ...

Oliver Boy Doll Tutorial

87 days ago by Callicious Cakes | 37 comments »

I have plans later on this year for a far more detail on the 2 doll cakes I experimented with.. but as I have been asked many times for this, here is just a mini version of Oliver, which may help give some insight towards inspiring you to give it a go.. it really is very simple to make if time-strapped (as I was ) and only took a day :) Here is Oliver…. So here is the 10” sponge cake I baked to start :) here is where I demarcated the head… this was guesswork R...

The Pink Cake Box Tutorials #2: Tappit letter sets

89 days ago by RoseAtThePinkCakeBox | 11 comments »

I know most of you will be whizzes at these but for anyone still struggling here’s a little sequence of pictures I did for a friend who couldn’t work them.. Roll your fondant out thinly, push down with your cutter and wiggle it to get a clean cut, line it up against another row if letters and flick it back like a ruler, flicking in down onto the other row then the desired letter should come out nicely. Leave to set for a couple of mins then use xx

MOLDS OUT OF LEFTOVER FONDANT

105 days ago by funfetti | 8 comments »

I just saw a video from Verusca Walker about making molds out of leftover fondant that was so interesting I thought I’d share it with you. You can see the actual video through YouTube. Take all of your leftover fondant from previous cakes and mix them together until you have a pliable piece – you will probably end up with a grayish or taupy color; add a generous amount of Tylose because you want the mold to harden rock solid. Once you have thoroughly mixed the Tylose into th...

Bodice Tutorial

158 days ago by Callicious Cakes | 34 comments »

I have had some interest in “how to” on this cake, so here is a tutorial to help along the way. Carved and ganache chocolate cake (apologies I do not have photos of the smoothing process) I then covered it with flesh coloured fondant. Then I covered with blue fondant that I previously had cut a pattern and did the same for the burgundy coloured fondant too. To save time, I used a floral patchwork cutter to indent a pattern so I have an outline to follow fo...
