Pillow cake tutorial

401 days ago by Pam and Nina's Crafty Cakes | 20 comments »

This is a pillow cake for a 50th birthday. The shoe is made of fondant/gumpaste and completely edible. We two-toned the fondant with purple on the bottom and biege on top with white royal accents. 10 inch and 6 inch tiers are of yellow cake and filled with chocolate mousse and oreo cookie crumbs. The pans were the newest in the Wilton line and simply great to use. We were so impressed that we can’t wait till we need to make another. Here is a brief showcasing of what we did an...

RED Red Velvet Cake

384 days ago by isugarcoatit | 12 comments »

I absolutely love red velvet cake and I use this recipe each time I make it. The end product produces a rich, deep red and moist, light texture. The deep red color is achieved using a combination of cocoa rouge and beet juice – it’s how I get my required daily serving of vegetable. Red Velvet Cake Ingredients1 cup unsalted butter2 tbsp water3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa (I use E. Guittard’s red dutch cocoa powder – Cocoa Rouge)3 eggs1 cup buttermilk1tbsp white vi...

Tutorial - Brush Embroidery

60 days ago by TashasTastyTreats | 10 comments »

What is Brush Embroidery? It is a decorative technique used in sugar craft art. A paintbrush is stroked through royal icing leaving behind brush strokes which resemble stitching in fabric. It looks so beautiful and effective and it is not overly time consuming, what could be better! How can I use this technique?2D and 3D flowers, 2D animals and objects, ocean wave tips, fur (e.g. adding texture in a structured way) and as an outline/border. These images could be put on, for example ca...

Elf on the Shelf cake topper tutorial

157 days ago by MyCakeFairyDotCom | 10 comments »

My household is obsessed with The Elf on the Shelf this time of year so I had to turn the little guy into a cake topper. I took some photos along the way! I have several homemade face molds from my daughter’s dolls. I thought this Lemon Meringue one was around the right size and shape. You simply make the face mold by impressing the doll face in gumpaste and allowing it to dry hard. You can then use it as a mold. Here I’ve pressed a flesh tone ball of fondant/gumpast...

How to Cover a 12" x 12" Cake Board with Scrapbook Paper!

456 days ago by PeggyDoesCake | 9 comments »

How to Cover a Square Cake Drum – (12” or smaller) Materials Needed: Cake drum (I always use ½” thick) 12” x 12” sheet scrapbook paper Roll of contact paper Scissors STEP 1Trim your craft paper to the size of your cake board. If you’re using a 12” inch square cake board and a 12” x 12” inch scrapbook sheet (like I’m using today), you don’t have to do any trimming! Awesome! STEP 2Cut your contact paper about 6 inches bigger ...
