So here’s the thing…. I was asked to make a Giant cupcake cake on short notice for a six year old girl’s birthday party. I thought , no problem, I have the pan(which I bought over a year ago and have never used!) .Quoted my single layer cake price when she sent a picture of a cupcake cake with no icing on the bottom part, just something like a ice cream swirl on the top part with a cherry on the top…incidentally the party theme is 50’s she said…...So I baked...
Too busy or too busy trying to get over being too busy, I haven’t been able to get to my blog!! This blog entry is a reminder to myself that I must learn how to say “no”, reinstate some balance in my life and never allow myself to repeat a year like 2012…....... Tears and Tantrums, Cakes and Parties, Books and Magazines and work trips to Melbourne. Love and Loss and Dreadful Navigation. By the time Christmas Day had arrived, December alone, had seen me spend 4 days ...
I love receiving feedback from customers…. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Bring it on…... I like to hear it all. Of course I like a glowing report as much as the next person but I also need to know if something is not right!!! Truly, I’m not worried that someone is going to tell me that the cake was the worst thing that they have ever tasted. I have made enough cakes now to know that this is not my area of concern ….... what I do worry about is that someone may mentio...
I don’t think I have ever felt as nervous as I did when travelling to the first day of the Myer Emporium Shoot. Having been on countless shoots over the years in Sydney, I have become used to knowing the people I work with. If I didn’t know the photographer, then I knew the stylist, or the art director or at least had worked in the studio before, but this was so different. In a different city, in a privately owned home, with 2 photographers, a stylist, the stylists assistant, ...
This (to me) is the hardest part about making a cake, getting that great clean smooth finish. With this tutorial by Whisk Kid, they show you how to frost a cake the best way every, with a scraper. Getting a bowl scraper, metal one, or any kind of scraper is the best way (to me) on how to create that smooth finish. This step my step word and picture tutorial will help you create that great finish. http://www.whisk-kid.com/2011/02/how-to-frost-cake.html
Bake and frost 1/4 sheet cake in Pink (I used princess pink color in gel). I pipe #3 or #4 white BC vines in corners, then pipe #104 roses on flower nail and place in corner in corners. I added rose buds along vines and start adding #352 white leaves. I then use palest green and mainly white in a tub for just a hint of color by adding more vines and leaves to fill in. I add a top and bottom boarder in #352 white leaf ruffle boarder. Front side of cake I added 3-tip dots a...
Hi and if your reading this or looking at my cakes you will realise I’m not a pro and just starting out. So far I’m loving baking and creating cakes. The only problem I’m having at the moment is too many ideas lol I just want to make everything. I get an idea in my head of how I want it to look then put pencil to is per to design it and figure out what to use. So far it’s been hard everything doesn’t pan out smoothly but I see it as learning as I go along. I have...
