109 days ago by bootifulcakes | 6 comments »

Lay your mat on a flat board as it will be easier to move to leave it somewhere to dry. When you are ready give the sugarveil a bit of a stir as it goes sort of “marshmallowy” once its been sitting. Scoop a bit out onto your mat using a spatula, then using the spatula (i found this ea...

Well, what can I say?! I uploaded my Rainbow Brite cake to my facebook page and in the past 4 hours has received 140 likes, 18 shares and tonnes of lovely comments! I’m on cloud 9! I am so tired it’s untrue, but just too giddy to sleep. I’m really glad that we beat the number of entries, but what I’m really proud of, is that there were more than 2 times more votes than the previous awards. Thank you all and I hope that next time there will be more votes than entries. And here are the winning cakes...

So, today I finally got to play at making some Marshmallow Fondant, I used 8oz Mini Marshmallows, 1lb Icing Sugar, 2 Tblespoon water. Added the water to the marshmallows and microwaved for 1 minute on high, whilst they were melting I smoothered a wooden spoon in Trex, once out of the microwave mixed till nice and smooth, then started to mix in the icing sugar (which was hard going towards the end) once I had encorporated most of the icing sugar, i turned it out onto a well covered boar...

Why cake decorating is hard work

114 days ago by KellieJ75 | 6 comments »

I was asked to do a cake for a girl freinds son who was graduating university. He is also in the police force so I was asked to do a round cake with a graduation cap and scroll on it. Easy peasy I thought, yeah, mother nature had other ideas. I normally bake my cakes and make my ganache 2 days before. So I did my normal ratio of ganache, 2 parts chocolate one part cream. Set it aside to harden slightly the night before. We were having hot and humid days and I didnt take this into accou...
