This is a tutorial for making sunflowers without having to shell out for cutters. I’m a total cheapskate and I was worried the cutters wouldn’t arrive in time in any case, so decided to try doing them freehand.
You will need:- Yellow fondant or gumpaste (I use Wilton fondant because it’s cheap, it’s pliable and it dries quickly)- Circle cutters (the size is up to you, I’ll talk more about this later)- Rolling pin- Exacto or sharp knife- Yellow, orange ...

I have seen other tutorials on this “Patterns inside a cake” technique but I didn’t know the importance of making the inside image tight if you want each piece to reflect a perfect image. My husband thought up this idea and it works great!
I baked a pink cake and cut a small wedge to cut my piece out of.
This is all the pieces.. see how they are wedge shaped? This allows for a tight image.
Now place the hearts upside down in a small pool of cake mix. I u...

In this tutorial I want to show you how to make a fondant ruffle flower. Ruffle flower accessories are chic and fashionable and can even be made out of fondant. They are a unique and clever way to accessorize a cupcake!
You will need a circle cutter. I used a 2 inch round cutter to cut out 5 circles. Roll out your fondant so that it is thin.
Working with one circle at a time, fold it in half but make sure it is dusted with cornstarch and that the edges are not sticking ...

Time management is a key ingredient to cake decorating success. I have found a way to work ahead. Recently, I used this method and was able to complete 3 cakes, all with detailed fondant accents, in just a few hours. (all the fondant work was completed ahead of time) All I had to do was ice my cakes, and place the completed, shaped fondant on the cakes. This method kept the fondant flexible. I was able to fit the fondant decorations, to several cakes into one plastic 12 X 12 case. The 12 X 12...

HOW TO MAKE AN ALL EDIBLE CASTLE CAKE
The whole design is actually NOT my original. I have seen several versions of Castle Cakes online which I used as inspiration for this cake. I cannot specify one particular artist as this is not a copy of any actual cake design. As an example: I saw the carriage in a magazine – got the idea from that. The carriage is not an actually copy on the magazine and the maker of the cake was not specified. It was an ad for a fondant. So I improvised.

Just a quick note (hopefully) with a few hints on how to create a seamless join when you want to have more than one colour of fondant covering your cake, with no overlaps.
1. Start by calculating the size fondant you need to cover the top half of the cake (in my case, the blue). I wanted the blue to come halfway down the sides of the cake so my fondant needed to be 7” (the top of the cake) + 2.25” (the cake was 4.5” high) x 2 (for each side) = 11.5” diameter.
