Fondant grass using a sieve

68 days ago by JustForTheCakeOfIt | 24 comments »

I just posted this on facebook today and thought I’d share with all of you here. It was a trick I learned in College and still use today. It’s my first tutorial and quite simple; but, it is useful if you’ve just run out of royal icing or buttercream, lost that grass tip, want your grass a bit finer than from a garlic press or don’t yet have an extruder. Hopefully it will be helpful to a few of you. Thanks for looking. :) You only need 5 tools:■a mesh sieve■a thi...

3D Cakes #2: Making Simon's Mountaineering Boots

91 days ago by FifiCakes | 16 comments »

These have been my most popular cake and CakesDecor very kindly selected them as Editor’s Choice last year. Tangled Rapunzel Tower cake tutorial

179 days ago by customcakedesignsoz | 12 comments »

This tutorial covers setting up the support structure and decoration of a “Tangled” Rapunzel Tower Cake as can be seen on https://www.facebook.com/CustomCakeDesigns .... This support structure was made for a cake that needed to cater for 70 desert size portions of cake. As it was a rather large cake, a strong ‘tower’ was needed to support the weight and hence plumbers plastic tubing / piping was selected as the main core of the tower. (This plastic tubing and ca...

How to make modeling chocolate

MODELING CHOCOLATE. That’s what has been consuming me lately. Half-Covered Stripes

412 days ago by RoyalBakery | 11 comments »

Just a quick note (hopefully) with a few hints on how to create a seamless join when you want to have more than one colour of fondant covering your cake, with no overlaps. 1. Start by calculating the size fondant you need to cover the top half of the cake (in my case, the blue). I wanted the blue to come halfway down the sides of the cake so my fondant needed to be 7” (the top of the cake) + 2.25” (the cake was 4.5” high) x 2 (for each side) = 11.5” diameter. ...
