110 days ago by Kirstie's cakes | 1 comment »

Well today is organise Sunday. (That’s after the food shopping)My other half is sorting my kitchen ready for inspecting and I must crack on with my health and hygiene course. I had seen alot of posts regarding whether or not you needed a hygenie certificate for a small cake business from home, so I got in touch with my council and they said yes they advise it. I had also read about various online courses but not all are recognised as a proper certificate so again I got in touch with my ...

Cloud 9!

110 days ago by SugarMummyCupcakes | 1 comment »

Wowsers! I woke up to almost 170 likes on my rainbow brite cake – I can’t quite believe it! It’s an odd business this cake decorating! I find the thought process stressful, decorating tiring, making the little bits that bring a cake together, therapeutic. But by far the best part is the cake sat ready and waiting for it’s new owners to pick it up. Then seeing their faces – it’s just pure joy, relief a d pride that beams from within! I get now why we do t...

MOLDS OUT OF LEFTOVER FONDANT

110 days ago by funfetti | 9 comments »

I just saw a video from Verusca Walker about making molds out of leftover fondant that was so interesting I thought I’d share it with you. You can see the actual video through YouTube. Take all of your leftover fondant from previous cakes and mix them together until you have a pliable piece – you will probably end up with a grayish or taupy color; add a generous amount of Tylose because you want the mold to harden rock solid. Once you have thoroughly mixed the Tylose into th...

Sugarveil

110 days ago by bootifulcakes | 6 comments »

I used sugarveil for the first time last weekend. I found it quite easy to do. Fix mix as per the instructions. I left this to sit for about 1/2 hour and then i was eager to use it. Lay your mat on a flat board as it will be easier to move to leave it somewhere to dry. When you are ready give the sugarveil a bit of a stir as it goes sort of “marshmallowy” once its been sitting. Scoop a bit out onto your mat using a spatula, then using the spatula (i found this ea...

Rainbow Brite keeps me up another night!

111 days ago by SugarMummyCupcakes | 0 comments »

Well, what can I say?! I uploaded my Rainbow Brite cake to my facebook page and in the past 4 hours has received 140 likes, 18 shares and tonnes of lovely comments! I’m on cloud 9! I am so tired it’s untrue, but just too giddy to sleep. I have done late nights (2:30am Weds night/thurs morn and 3:30am last night/this morn!) and now it looks like I’m wide away and ready to bake another cake! The last two cakes, I’ve pretty much had free reign on. I love these kinds o...

The results are in and it’s time to officially announce the winners of the CakesDecor Quarterly Awards - Winter 2013. I’m really glad that we beat the number of entries, but what I’m really proud of, is that there were more than 2 times more votes than the previous awards. Thank you all and I hope that next time there will be more votes than entries. And here are the winning cakes...
