Vintage Easter Basket

66 days ago by Bobbie | 0 comments »

It was wonderful having Sydney baking and decorating with me this past week, however I admit saying goodbye has become harder as she visits more often. I began realizing our relationship will be a series of visits and goodbyes. She loves living in D.C. and will probably go to graduate school at George Washington University. I am happy to see her become a self assured adult able to live on her own, but I would be lying to myself if I didn’t also… Royal Icing Recip egg whites 907 g...

Tonya's Confections on Facebook!

66 days ago by TonyasConfections | 0 comments »

Please go to my page on Facebook and take a look at the different cakes and cupcakes I have done. I would really appreciate the feedback. I am trying to start a bakery business, so I figured starting out at home would be best before jumping into owning my own bakery. Although that is my end goal/dream! Thanks!!! Dont forget to like my page while you’re there! Tonya’s Confections on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TonyasConfections

Tutorial - Brush Embroidery

66 days ago by TashasTastyTreats | 10 comments »

What is Brush Embroidery? It is a decorative technique used in sugar craft art. A paintbrush is stroked through royal icing leaving behind brush strokes which resemble stitching in fabric. It looks so beautiful and effective and it is not overly time consuming, what could be better! How can I use this technique?2D and 3D flowers, 2D animals and objects, ocean wave tips, fur (e.g. adding texture in a structured way) and as an outline/border. These images could be put on, for example ca...

Fondant grass using a sieve

71 days ago by JustForTheCakeOfIt | 24 comments »

I just posted this on facebook today and thought I’d share with all of you here. It was a trick I learned in College and still use today. It’s my first tutorial and quite simple; but, it is useful if you’ve just run out of royal icing or buttercream, lost that grass tip, want your grass a bit finer than from a garlic press or don’t yet have an extruder. Hopefully it will be helpful to a few of you. Thanks for looking. :) You only need 5 tools:■a mesh sieve■a thi...

Edible Prints #1: Edible Printers

72 days ago by Sweet Treasures (Ann) | 1 comment »

Ok, so I bought an edible printer to do fun things like labels and things that require tiny text. ALthough it too me forever because I have always appreciated crafts and cakes that were made entirely with the hands:) Well, so after 2 weeks of getting it, the prints were printing in odd colors and missing the magenta color entirely. I researched and found out that you need to keep the printer in use at least once a week. My question, is it really worth the investment, not to mention the ...

Interviews #14: Naomi Hubert from Tea Party Cakes

72 days ago by Michal Bulla | 17 comments »

I have been a stay-at-home Mom since the birth of my daughter in 2003. I have always had an artistic side, even at a young age. When I was little I spent many hours creating with the odds and ends found in the craft trunk my father made me, and when I wasn’t making some fantastic piece of art for my mother I was in the backyard in my sandbox making mud pies. It seems to me these two things have been a constant in my life, art and baking. It wasn’t until 2010 my two hobbies merge...
