Fondant Feathers #1: Making a feather with fondant!

25 days ago by Timbo | 2 comments »

I love to keep everything I do, very simple….but simple doesnt always mean EASY! LolFor this tutorial, you may want to use Gumpaste… I used Wilton Fondant (For the record, I ALWAYS use the Liz Marek Recipe, but for these, I wanted them to get hard, so I didnt.) Start off with a strip of fondant, and cut both sides at an angle, depending on how big you want your feather! You may also want to try using your pizza cutter or small rolling cutter to give the feather dramatic curves&...

Sweet Sugar Baby

16 days ago by TheLittleCakePatch | 2 comments »

There is a delicate whimsy in having a baby transform into some magical and enchanted being, making them fairies, bugs, princesses…. I delight, fuss and frustrate on every detail as I mold and sculpt and dress the little sugar babies so I can tuck the little sweet being in a sugar flower that adorns the cake… It starts with a bit of inspiration from the “real” baby—-it actually eats my time and a whole lot of time!!! I just keep on looking at the photo of the real bab...

Wedding cakes in Buttercream #1: 3 designs in one cake

8 days ago by Nancy's Fancy's Cakes & Catering (Nancy Goolsby) | 2 comments »

I used 100% buttercream to frost cake with, and do all scrollwork, boarders, etc… 3-tier wedding cake (6-8-12 inch tiers) 2-layers in each tier w/ buttercream filling. I baked and frosted all tiers w/ buttercream frosting. I very lightly spritz sides of iced cakes w/ water. I smoothed icing by dipping icing spatula in very warm water, and shaking off excess. I continue to dip and shake off excess by tapping on side of tall cup or pitcher. *You can also dip spatula ...

Here are the things needed to make this flower. Colored gumpaste, Daisy cutters or plungers, ball tool, vein tool, flute dresden tool, sharp craft knife, rolling pin, foam pad, scissors, cutting mat, craft pliers, florist wires and floral tape, water or edible glue. 1. This flower is heavy. Therefore, you need a thick wire to support its weight. Since I don’t have a #20 gauge on hand, I made use of 4 #22 gauge floral wires and wrap it with a green floral tape. Sugar Paste Full Blown Rose Spray!

5 days ago by Bobbie | 2 comments »

Sydney has been asking me if we could create a sugarpaste full blown rose spray for a cake for sometime now. I figured with Roses being June’s flower now would be perfect. I based the roses for this cake after the Glowing Peace Rose, named after its grandparent Peace, the world’s most renowned rose. The Glowing Peace combines timeless beauty with a modern touch. Large, round buds open to reveal full, 3 inch blooms featuring 26 to 42 golden… Read the wh...

Hi guys, hoping you all can help me please. I’m making a cake for next weekend and need to make an octagonalCage for the top of the cake. It’s a UFC themed cake. I have tried royal icing but it’s very delicate and easily breaks. Any ideas would be appreciated.
