Wilson Basketball Cake

This cake was for my basketball team’s end of the year party (I was their coach). This was my first round carved cake. I baked two 10 in rounds and one 9 in round, stacked and filled with ganache, then carved. The bottom half is styrofoam; I didn’t need that much cake (they only ended up eating half of it) and I really didn’t want to figure out how to carve a complete sphere. I covered the cake in ganache and then covered the entire thing in one piece of fondant. Covering it in one piece of fondant was actually easier that I thought it would be. I then used tip #3 to add all of the texture for the cake. It took me a while but I’m fairly pleased with the results. One of the dad’s even thought it was a real ball that was sitting on the dining room table, which pretty much made my night.

I also made sugar cookies for the party; I uploaded a picture of my cookie along with the ball.

I made this cake for a foundation’s dessert auction. I had so much fun working on all of the parts. I wanted to make it functional but I didn’t have time to figure out how to do the circuit in the cake.

I had three days notice for this cake so I wasn’t able to do as much detail as I wanted. I still think the color is pretty accurate! I plan on making a full 3D basketball in march for my niece’s basketball banquet (I’m her coach!)

Sparkly 18th Birthday Cake

We have yet to invest in a nice camera so I had to make do. This was a fun three tier cake to complete. Covered in fondant with fondant and gum paste decorations. I did advise my client that anything with disco dust was inedible and needed to be removed before serving. They were very pleased when they came to pick it up. Unfortunately, the 1 and the 8 broke in half. I was able to repair it and they understood that things happen but I felt so bad.
Love making those anemones!

The board is faux wood fondant. The lighting wasn’t the best and it was the only thing I would change about the cake.

I had a BLAST making these animals, especially the giraffe with the bow tie and pearl necklace and the flamingo with the party hat!

The original cake was covered in dragees instead of sugar pearls. Unfortunately they are not available in California, so we selected white and black pearls. We loved the look of the entire table.

This was our first (official) stacked wedding cake since opening in April 2012. It is a white on white lace stenciling with a Darth Vader coming out of the bottom of the cake. We had some difficulty with the stencil on the round cake but it turned out well and everyone was very please. The cake itself was completely gluten-free and the guests loved it!
