Thank you so much for your comment Tina! It took me 2 months to make that pagoda for my son in law. I am not a master at decorating like most people on this site, so it was a big struggle! Many tears later, I finished it in time for his birthday and he was absolutely overwhelmed by it. That made me cry even more! Every cake is a challenge to me. I have only made 19 so far! But I am learning, and by looking at cakes like the amazing ones you make, I get ideas, confidence and eagerness to go on. Thank you so much for making such beautiful cakes and posting them so that I can learn from your brilliance!

Awww bless you. I can only imagine how happy you must have been. Its AMAZING Maggie. You’ve captured all the details so perfectly. Keep going. It might just be 19 now but could soon be 190 soooon :-)
I only started baking and decorating just about 2 years back when my brothers wedding cake was completely messed up. I didn’t even know how to bake a cake then. I so wished I knew how to bake and decorate. I came back thinking that when my little sister gets married, I’ll make her a cake that looks amazing and everything she dreams it would be.
I then went to the Cake International show and OH MY GOD, I didn’t know where to look. Felt like a kid in a toy shop..was running around like a headless chicken. I blew a lot of money on things I didn’t even know how to use. Haha!
There I met the lovely Queen of Hearts- buttercream queens and signed up for a lesson on cupcake decorating with buttercream. I baked my first ever cake with them and then was brave enough to attempt to make a Batman and Robin cake for my sons birthday. My son was so proud of me but now he looks back at pictures of the cake and says ‘Mum, I don’t think Batman ever looked that hilarious – not even in cartoons’ LOL!
So that says it all. Hahaha
I then stumbled accross some cake decorating videos on YouTube, which is how I learnt to decorate. Cake forums like this and the tutorials on pinterest that a lot of kind people posted, is really how I learnt this much. I don’t really know who all those amazing people are, but very grateful to them.
I haven’t made that many cakes either but will certainly post what I make. I work full time all 5 days a week and hence only get time at night and weekends.
Seeing the work of some of the cake artists here makes me realise the level of skill that’s out there. It’s just mind blowing :-) and getting to meet such lovely people like you is just GREAT xxxx
