Just thought I’d share a fun idea for cupcake designs that’s easy to do and really has unlimited possibilities. The print used for the flower is an edible image. You can really come up with some funky designs just by choosing different prints and then picking up the different colors from the print to use in the buttercream icing and the rest of the flower.
- Start by rolling out fondant on a greased mat to about 1/16” thickness.
- If you’re doing all of your cupcakes with the same design, then you’ll apply the entire icing sheet print. If not, then just cut a section that will be big enough to accommodate the size of the flower cutter you use.
- Peel off the backing from the icing sheet.
- Use a paintbrush to apply a thin coat of piping gel to the surface of the fondant.
- Lay the icing sheet over the fondant and smooth it out with the palm of your hands.
- Press the flower cutter into the fondant, pressing really firmly around the edges of the cutter to make sure it goes all the way through. Wiggle the cutter a big to ensure a clean cut.
- Lift the flower cut-out with a spatula and set it aside to dry.
- Color fondant with a complimentary color to the print you use.
- Roll out to 1/16” thickness and cut it with a smaller flower cutter.
- Use a ball tool in the center of the flower to make the petals bend upwards.
- Color some fondant yellow to create the center of the flower.
- Pipe buttercream on the cupcake.
- Place the designer print flower in the center. Put a dot of piping gel in the center and then add the smaller flower cut-out.
- Top the flower with a small ball of yellow fondant. You can mark the center with a knife to create a crisscross pattern.
