My background and education is in Art and Design, I studied art from leaving school to gaining my Masters at the London Institute. After a varied career from gallery work to prop and set design for TV, I decided to go into teaching art at secondary school. I am currently the Head of Art at a high school in Norfolk. I have always loved baking and have baked and decorated cakes for family and friends since I was about 10. Having my own children gave me even more scope for creating special cakes and as soon as I started sharing photos, the demand for my cakes went from a hobby to something more professional. I now balance my part time teaching with a successful cake decorating business. I am mainly self-taught, often translating my traditional art skills into working with sugar paste or painting onto cakes. I am now extending my skills by attending specialist courses to learn how to work with chocolate etc. I enjoying learning new techniques and I find that each new cake gives me the chance to challenge myself and broaden my decorating skills.
Sugar Buttons Cakes is a fully insured and registered home based food business with full hygiene certification, based in Norwich, Norfolk. I am passionate about baking and use quality ingredients such as free range eggs in all my freshly baked cakes.
In November 2012 I was diagnosed with Coeliacs disease so I am constantly experimenting with gluten free recipes. See my facebook page for updates on gluten free products. Almost all of my cakes are able to be modified to accommodate various allergies or intolerances.
