Cinderella's Magical Dress

I made this Cinderella cake for a little girl turning three who loves Cinderella! I wanted to capture the magic of the transformation of Cinderella in her rags to her ball gown for the ball. I put small LED lights under her dress and pointing at her so she would look like she was in mid-spell. She is elevated and I put Aluminum foil around the plastic pillar that holds her up to help reflect the lights. She also has a wired silver star ribbon wrapped around her and ending in the Fairy Godmother’s wand. The cake itself is an Aussie Chocolate mud cake with chocolate ganache and covered in white fondant. I borrowed a faux finish technique of sponging small circles of different colors together to achieve the color on the cake itself. But instead of wet paint, I used dry petal dusts and luster dusts overlapping each other. Gus and Jaq the happy mice are on pumpkins made of fondant.

The surfboard was constructed in three parts – each end is Rice Krispies Treats formed to the surfboard shape. In the middle is a 12”x18” sheet cake. Buttercream smoothed the joints of this carrot cake and fondant brought it all together. The blue background design was airbrushed on. The flames details were cut freehand from yellow fondant and dry brushed on the edges with red petal dust. The cake border is swirls of three colors of blue fondant extruded and rolled like a swirl to look like water.

This charming birthday cake is based on a design by the Pink Cake Box. My cake is a hand painted leopard print on fondant. The cake itself is a white cake colored hot pink with chocolate and yellow cake leopard spots baked into the cake. Will add a picture when I have one! The pink bow is made from fondant with some Tylose powder added. I used a bow tutorial from the amazingly talented Leslie Wright of Royal Bakery. The “jewel” I added to the bow was from the Michaels craft store. The shamrock on top is gum paste and represents the fact this sweet little girl was born on St Patrick’s Day! The bottom tier has 3 8”x 2” layers filled and covered with chocolate ganache. Top tier is 2 6”x2” layers. I love the fun mix of colors and the way the leopard print turned out!

I made this cute little owl for my daughter’s teacher’s birthday. And of course I also had to make 25 little owl cake pops for the students! The owl was carved from a six in chocolate cake that was cut in half and stacked four layers high. A dowel through the center kept it intact. And the whole thing was covered in chocolate ganache then fondant. The cake pops are two designs—one for boys and one for girls. The teacher owl in the middle shares colors with both. I used impression mats to give texture to the different cut out pieces of fondant. This teacher loves owls and has them all over her classroom decor. The cake pops are molded, dipped in candy melts and then adorned with cut pieces of fondant. The eyes are Wilton candy eyes. Thanks for looking!

How much fun would it be to have your birthday on St Patrick’s day?! Well this cake was for a lucky girl who also happened to get a birthday cake from me exactly one year earlier—the first day I was officially in business as Jenny’s Haute Cakes! So making it was also an anniversary celebration for me! Inside are 6 rainbow layers of white cake filled and frosted with white chocolate ganache. Covered in fondant. The pot of gold is basically a large cake pop covered in ganache and fondant and filled with chocolate coins. The shamrocks flying around the pot of gold were cut from gum paste and “glued” back to back around a cake wire made by Duff Goldman. The tall one are cake wires and the short ones are on cupcake wires. Nothing about this cake was particularly difficult to make, but I thought the design came out really well and it is fun!

The snake is part Aussie mud cake with vanilla buttercream and part rice crispies treats. It is covered in a 50/50 mix of fondant and modeling chocolate. I used a plastic flourescent light cover to create the diamond skin pattern. The tree is PVC pipe and wire covered in modeling chocolate with gumpaste leaves.

The conchos around the top tier were made from modeling chocolate in molds I made myself. The rope and horse shoes were made using molds I purchased. I hand-painted plaques on the middle tier from fabric used in the party decor. For the bottom tier I used flexible silicone scrapbooking stamps to emboss the fondant to look like embossed leather. The bandana was created using a paisley mold then hand painted to highlight the detail. The lettering on the bottom tier for was made using stamping tools for leather. This cake was a labor of love.
