I am a solo baker and decorator. My journey in cake decorating started in Feb 2010, aged 56, when I walked into my first cake class. 2 months later I did my first cake, my son's wedding cake, and have been on such a roller coaster of confectionery creative fun ever since.
My background is pure graphics, no painting or fine arts at all. I gave up art completely for an entire decade and thoroughly enjoyed my career in Admin Management. In 2008, my husband persuaded me to give up my demanding job and to go back to my creative roots. I decided to give oil painting a try and discovered a whole new world in art. Thus ended my decade-long art sabbatical and I did two oil paintings and before I knew it, my canvas switched to icing in 2010.
Through teaching (both on cakes as well as other mediums), I have shown people that they CAN paint, when they have insisted they are not artists. We are ALL artists, and in so many versatile varied ways.
I enjoy pushing my own boundaries, testing out new ideas and mediums and constantly challenge myself where I can. I embrace learning with a passion as I am a huge advocate that you never stop learning, it was artists do.... learn and strive for more and more... with PASSION and verve and the sheer joy of creating.
I am fortunate enough to have an equal balance between my wonderful supportive family and my cakes. I have forged genuine, much valued friendships in this joyful community of confection. I firmly advocate knowledge-sharing and have now started a shop for tutorials on my cake page. I am already teaching privately in my area and do various painting and sugar flower classes throughout the UK.
I love coming onto Cakes Decor as not only am I inspired by all that I see, but love watching people grow and becoming inspired by others. I find this cake community so warming, welcoming and positive.
