Cake and cupcakes for a Bollywood party. The party planner provided the direction for the designs.
Loved experimenting with new materials and techniques for this project. It was my first time using rice paper to make the feathers, really simple method but took quite a while to cover the whole base tier. It was a double barrel; 8”x 8”. Special thanks goes to Way Beyond Cakes for her parrot tulip tutorial…altho mine turned out more like a peony :D

The peacock feathers for the cupcakes were made of fondant and layered with a myriad of petal and luster dust.

The bride pretty much left most of the design to me :D She only specified the beary couple topper and pink sakuras to be included in her cake.

I really enjoyed making this cake, more than I thought I would :D
I don’t make flowers often, let alone wiring the blooms together onto a spike. I was lucky none of them broke in the process :D
Everything is edible, except for the bamboo stake supporting the spike.

Little Zoe is born in the Chinese zodiac year of the Rabbit. She has a favourite soft toy; a Kaloo rabbit that she keeps close with her and sleeps with every night. Her mommy wants me to incorporate that in the cake design and this is what I came up with :D

Tristan’s mom said that her little boy is into Cars and would love to have Finn and Lightning on his cake. The rest is up to me. I was pondering on how to make the cake different but ended up using elements from the cartoon….oh well! Hahah…but I was happy I got to play with my airbrush for this project.

This cake was requested by my friend for his birthday. It was carved out of 2×6” round cakes, covered in fondant and dry dusted with petal dust.

Goofing around with this pair :D

The skirt portion is made of stacked 6” round cakes, carved on the top to achieve the dome effect.

This is one of the cakes that I had trouble parting with. I love the alligator with the little ducky snuggled under his arm. My 6 year old niece is quite the expert in this game, while I have no sense of patience whatsoever :D

We know of photo realism but what do we call it for cakes? Cake realism? Haha

This is my 1st bag of chips cake. Wasn’t sure I could pull it off at 1st and was fussing over the fact that I couldn’t get my hands on edible lacquer to give the bag a shiny and reflective effect. I gave up searching and skipped the lacquering in the end.

Bowl of sauce, chilly and chips are hand painted/dusted. The brand labels are edible image decals and the rest of the wordings are hand painted as well.

A set of cupcakes for a dad who owns an orchard. Can you name the fruits? :D

I was very excited when a client requested for this theme. It hits home because I am given a rare opportunity to create something that reflects my culture.

A Peranakan wedding featuring;
~ the bride and groom in traditional costumes,
~ bakul sia ‘auspicious basket’ (a traditional rattan/bamboo and paper mache basket used to keep foodstuff. It is also an important element in Peranakan weddings. Wedding gifts were exchanged and transported in this basket during the engagement and wedding day),
~ kasut manek ‘beaded slippers’,
~ and the Nyonya kebaya (a traditional blouse worn by the women folk of the Peranakan community, usually made of sheer materials such as kasa rubiah ‘Swiss voile’, featuring intricate hand embroidery motifs. A kebaya is fastened with brooches and worn with a sarong, usually batik, held together by a silver belt)

I have never done a 3D ball shaped cake before so I was pretty nervous. Thanks to a few references to guide me in this project; Debbie Brown’s Fairy Tale Cakes book and a couple of tutorials I found online;

Happy to report that I have conquered my fear over ball shaped cakes :) All in all, a really fun project to do.
