Wee Brother's Xbox Cake...with a Difference...

An Xbox cake with a difference, made for my brother’s 13th birthday. It had a ‘Bully Academy’ theme as that’s his fave game – so that’s the main character Jimmy hand-drawn on the lit-up screen which has been ‘smashed’ by the slingshot. The RKT Turtle-Beach headset were a must as he wears them constantly, and the cake-pop controller had moveable analogue sticks. He was a very happy boy…and best bit is I got to eat this one! Yey! :D

You can see my fab wee bro with his big smiling face here > https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=477773805626628&set=pb.298399620230715.-2207520000.1368718562.&type=3&theater

You're Not Old Grandad, You're Vintage!!

I like to create a picture with my cakes and, as this was for my Grandad’s 90th birthday, it had to have a vintagey feel which I love. Three types of cake for the family to scoff, the watering can being a large double barrel cake which even had ‘water’ inside (last pic). The bench with the number 90 on the back was handmade with foamboard, and covered with fondant to give a wooden texture. The blossom tree was purely decorative as this huge cake had to travel 500 miles down the motorway. As my Grandma was a ‘classic’ cake decorator back in the day they love my creations, and glad to say it was a big hit with my Grandad’s bowling team when my Gran finally allowed him to cut it over a week later. :)

Mumbles was my 8th cake which I loved making. My first figure made from RKT and fondant, and the icebergs were vanilla sponge. The ice river was shiny and it sparkled all over (hard to see in the pics). I didn’t want to give him away but was happy when I heard the 2 year old girl danced when she seen him. :)

A quick cake made for my Mum. First topsy turvy style cake and first time using an airbrush. I wanted the lower part of the cake to have a whimsical feel with Alice going through the keyhole to the unknown, while keeping the cat more cartoon like. I also added dandelions with hearts at the back, and lots of butterflies, as my Mum loves them.

101 Dalmatian cake. Very large cake at 21” tall.

Everything made at an angle for added effect, and lights up behind Cruella at the door. Added the last pic as you get a better idea of the size. Officially a year since I made my first cake, and my first fondant animal and figure, so really pleased with them.

Very time consuming cake. Hope you like it! :)

French Boudoir Dressing Table

Large cake to feed 50 with all the birthday gals favourite things on top of a French boudoir style dressing table. Apparently it sat in the centre of the room for a surprise 40th party at a swanky place in Glasgow City Centre.

I hand made the cake board with 3 sheets and the top sheet had the extra front drawer which I wanted to lay open. The mirror was hand crafted from foam board and fondant. It took a long time to cut all the intricate parts and shape the fondant over it. The lights are also fondant attached with icing. Initially the mirror was able to swing, but I misjudged how heavy the lights would be and it made it bottom heavy, so in the end I had to attach it so that it wouldn’t fall forward. Everything else on the cake was edible including the perfume, fake bake and drawers on top.

My most time consuming cake since I started 11 months ago.

As it is my first Christmas as a cake decorator, I used a few of my Christmas ideas and put them into one cake to send to my Gran who never gets to see my work. I sent the cake in 2 parts, and it survived apart from the slopping roof which needed reattaching.

I Heart One Direction!

Didn’t want to make a One Direction cake like others I had seen, so used a bit of arts and crafts to make mine a bit different with a roof and side ‘screens’. I raised the stage, added coloured and white LED lights to the front and back, and covered mars bars to look like speakers. Added an audience with edible banners, someone taking a photo, and got the birthday girl’s mum to take a pic of her looking surprised so I could add her onto stage with the boys in edible form. The sponge was chocolate marble cake, and as she lives pink and sparkles I made the sponge pink and sparkly! Really enjoyed making this cake, and the birthday girl loved it too. :)

Sent it through the post as a wee surprise for her birthday to cheer her up as she had been feeling low.
